PROJECT TRANSFORMATION • POQUOSON, VIRGINIA
A new roof can change the way a home looks from the street—and offer reassurance about the system overhead. At this Poquoson home, Bluewater Building Company replaced the existing roof with a GAF Timberline HDZ® roofing system, including Lifetime Tool® Ultimate Pipe Flashing® at roof penetrations. These project photos follow the work from the original roof through the finished result.
The original roof covered a broad, low-profile brick home. The replacement refreshed the exterior while giving the home a new roofing system. A roof's visible shingles are only one part of the story: the work also involves the roof deck, protective layers, and the details where materials meet openings and edges.

The crew began by removing the existing roofing. Protective tarps were positioned around the work area, and the photographs show the roof decking exposed as removal progressed. This stage gives the team an opportunity to evaluate the visible deck before the new system goes on.
With the deck exposed, the photographs show rows of shingle bundles staged along the ridge ahead of installation. This is the middle of the transformation: the old roof is off, materials are on deck, and the new shingle surface is still to come.

The installation photos show the new shingles going on across the roof. Timberline HDZ® is GAF's architectural asphalt shingle line, designed to give a roof a dimensional appearance. A roofing system also relies on compatible accessories and installation details; the specific components and warranty eligibility depend on the products selected and the manufacturer's requirements.
On this Poquoson home, the finished charcoal-toned roof complements the light brick and dark shutters. The result is a refreshed exterior with a crisp, cohesive look from the curb.

Removal exposes the supporting surface beneath the shingles. Discuss how your contractor evaluates the deck and handles any repair needs uncovered during the work.
Ask what flashing will be used around vent pipes. This project includes Lifetime Tool® Ultimate Pipe Flashing®, a detail that works with the rest of the roof system.
Compare the actual manufacturer-backed limited warranty offered for your proposed system, including eligibility, coverage and registration requirements.
Roof penetrations need careful attention because they interrupt the roof surface. This project includes Lifetime Tool® Ultimate Pipe Flashing®. Its compression-collar design is intended to help seal around a vent pipe. That detail works alongside the surrounding shingles and other roofing components.
Bluewater Building Company is a GAF Certified Plus™ contractor. GAF states that Certified Plus contractors can offer certain enhanced manufacturer-backed limited warranties on qualifying roof systems. Coverage, eligibility, registration, exclusions, and available terms depend on the particular system and warranty selected. Ask the team which options apply to your project and review the warranty documents rather than assuming that every roof receives the same coverage.
Whether you are seeing signs of wear or simply planning ahead, a roof evaluation is a useful place to start. Discuss the roof's condition, the products proposed, details around penetrations, and the warranties available for your specific project. Our team serves Poquoson and the surrounding Hampton Roads communities.
